Description

A file of documents relating to the cancellation of the deferment of men under the age of twenty-five years in certain occupations. The affected occupations mainly encompass the heavy and allied industries, and skilled industries. Documents in the file include extensive lists of the occupations eligible for the continuation of deferment; lists of the occupations subject to special schemes, including civil servants, rural craftsmen, pharmacists, and all occupations in coalmining; and lists of occupations connected to the building industry, for which deferment may continue until a review on the position of the National Building Programme. Other documents include lists of occupations for which deferment will expire under the decision of the Chairman of the Manpower Committee; and summaries of observations by government departments on the deferment cancellation proposal.
