A file containing documents relating to the appointment of regional Military Training (Hardship) Committees to deal with cases in which, under the National Service (Armed Forces) Act 1939, call-up has been postponed if it would cause extreme financial hardship. Documents in the file include official correspondence on the subject; drafts of letters of appointment and offers of appointment to the committees; lists of people appointed, or not available, to serve on the committees; and letters from the public offering their services.
