A file of government correspondence relating to the recovery of billeting allowances for the London office of the Sudanese Government. Subjects covered in the file include the responsibility of the department in maintaining quarterly records of billeting payments; the number of persons billeted; the length of billeting periods; the rates of allowances paid to householders; the sums of the total liabilities incurred by the department; and the question of the department receiving excess sums from householders. Other subjects covered include the return of the department to its original London office following the end of the war; requests for the remission of overpayments and for the provision of sufficient financial information prior to auditing; and the appointment of new auditors.
