A file of documents relating to billeting arrangements in hostel accommodation by the Friends' War Relief Service. Subjects discussed in the file include the recruitment for hostel wardens; the involvement of evacuees in hop-picking; emergency provisions for air-raid shelters; and financial issues, including the maintenance of evacuees, staff pay, and the lack of funding from the United States. Other subjects covered include the unification of voluntary organisations; the issue of the suitability of the hostels for long-term habitation; repair and renovation work for hostels; emergency hostel staff; the difficulties of transporting old-aged infirm evacuees to hostels; and the evacuation of the docklands area in London due to air raids.
