Two copies of a report on industry and employment in the region around Southampton, produced by J.H. Matthews for Nuffield College's Social Reconstruction Survey. Topics covered by the report include a geographical description and definition of the area studied; changes in population both before and during the war; the nature and location of the different industries in the area; the effects of the war, particularly of air raids and bomb damage, on housing; and the future prospects for the region, including suggestions for industry and an outline of future planning schemes. Topics covered by appendices to the report include the import and export shipping trade; the make-up of family units; and the relationship between housing and the location of industry.
