A file of official correspondence, memoranda, and meeting minutes concerning the internment of enemy aliens. The documents contain the minutes of several meetings of the British government's Council on Aliens, convened to discuss the lives of enemy aliens interned both within Britain itself and in the wider British Commonwealth; and correspondence concerning the appointment to the council of a permanent representative from the British Council. The documents also include a series of statistical tables providing data regarding applications from German, Italian, and Austrian nationals held in British internment camps; and a memorandum on British internment policy, covering the deportation of several thousand enemy aliens to internment camps in Canada and Australia, and the possibility of permitting these aliens to emigrate to the United States of America. Other documents discuss the British government's decision to permit enemy aliens to become firewatchers, which would exempt these aliens from certain travel restrictions.
