Description
A file of official correspondence, meeting minutes, and statistical data concerning the internment of enemy aliens. The documents contain a series of statistical tables outlining applications for release by German, Austrian, and Italian nationals held in British internment camps; and additional statistical information on how many internees remain in these internment camps. The documents also include the minutes of several meetings of the British government's Council on Aliens, convened to discuss the lives of enemy aliens in internment camps, both in Britain itself and in the wider British Commonwealth; and a collection of reports assessing the conditions faced by Italian, German, and Austrian nationals interned in a British camp in Canada. Other documents discuss the provision of clothing and "pocket money" to internees; and a proposal to temporarily release enemy aliens from the internment camps if it is revealed that their relatives have died or are seriously ill.
