DRAFT REPORT ON METHODS OF MAINTAINING THE OUTPUT OF MILK. Prepared by the Milk Sub-Committee.

8 Sep 1941

6. The Committee have already drawn attention to the fact that for the same intake of fodder crops and concentrates, the cow will produce twice as much human food as the bullock and five times as much as the sheep. They have also stated as a general principle, that in time of food scarcity, priority in the use of agricultural resources should be given to the production of:- (1) crops for direct human consumption; (2) milk; (3) other animal products. In consequence, they consider that the use of feeding stuffs for other animal production before the requirements of the milk industry have been fully satisfied, is a waste of national resources.
