THE EFFECT OF A SUDDEN REDUCTION OF FOOD SUPPLIES ON THE OUTPUT OF MEAT FROM BEEF HERBS. Memorandum by Professor D.M.S. Watson.

6 Feb 1941

A generalised mathematical statement is beyond my powers and would serve no useful purpose. But it is easy to make a simple graphical picture of the events. Suppose that one steer enters the fattening group every 25 days. On full rations its weight will rise from 700 lbs. to slaughter at 1,000 lbs. in 150 days. There will therefore be on any day 6 steers in the group with a total ration of 60 lbs. and a production ration of 27 lbs. per day. They will emerge at a thousand lbs. at a steady rate of one every twentyfive days.
