" The Livestock Conference had recommended that to secure the necessary reduction in the numbers of cattle dairy cows should be reduced by 5 % by a process of culling which will remove diseased cows and some poor yielders, whilst beef cattle should be reduced by 20 % which will include a reduction to one half of those imported from Eire. At present, owing to the outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Eire, none are being imported, so that the necessary reduction in home bred beef cattle is smaller than it would have been had circumstances been normal.
