3. In our climate it seems desirable that 25% of the calorie value of our food should be derived from fats. In a diet supplying 2,800 calories per head per week, under consideration by the Scientific Committee's Sub-Committee of Physiologists, an allowance of smear fats of 10 oz. per head per week is suggested, which with the fat and other components of the diet, milk, meat, cheese, etc., will supply 28% of calories from fats. The present ration of smear fats is 8 oz. per head per week which would in the proposed selection of foodstuffs only supply 18% of the calories from total fats.
