FOOD STOCKS AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER. Note by Professor D.M.S. Watson.

SUGAR. The first sugar from the home crop came in in the week ending 21st September. There are some 14 weeks' supply in hand. FISH SUPPLIES. The Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries has circulated a memorandum on Fish Supplies from which it appears that:- (a) By Admiralty requisition, and inaccessibility of fishing grounds, the catch of white fish in the first 8 months of the year was reduced to 68% of that of the corresponding period in 1939, but that the reduction may be expected to go on to some 25%.
