VEGETABLES (other than potatoes.) Memorandum by Professor F. L. Engledow, Mr. W. Gavin and Professor J. A. Scott-Watson.

4 Jul 1940

4. Production of celery, asparagus and sea-kale should be discouraged; and also that of winter broccoli in districts where the risk of failure, owing to frost is high. 5. As regards glass-houses, the chief aim should be an increase in tomato production at the expense of other crops. Apart from an increase in the total vegetable acreage in 1941, a and the changes indicated in the proportions of the different types, the following matters should receive attention:- 1. The sale of canned and otherwise preserved vegetables should be restricted at all times when there is an ample supply and a reasonably wide choice of fresh vegetables.
