74 BREWING AND DISTILLING IN WAR TIME. Report by Interdepartmental Committee. 1. We were asked to examine the implications of the proposal that the present and prospective shortage of feeding stuffs for animals could be alleviated by diverting to livestock feeding the whole or part of the grain which would otherwise be used in brewing and distilling, (see Report of a Committee of Ministers W.P. (g) (39)97, and War Cabinet 86(39) Conclusion 3(iv)). In considering this question we have thought it best to pay special attention to the period from December, 1939 to March, 1940 inclusive, a period of four months during which the supply of imported feeding stuffs is likely to be very short and the demand seasonally at its greatest.
