FOOD SITUATION IN THE UNITED KINGDOM. (MONTHLY REPORT FOR MAY, 1942, BY THE MINISTER OF FOOD)

Wheat & (iv) The main changes in consumption are in the direction of a rathe better balanced national diet. Liquid milk sales in May were ab the previous peak in October 1941; cheese consumption will show some increase owing to the change in the ordinary ration; bacon and ham consumption has been slightly increased by issues for cooked meat; fresh fish supplies were heavier in May; dried egg will offset the decline in fresh eggs; the seasonal shortage of vegetables is over. There has been a reduction in the deliveri flour since the extraction rate was raised but it is not yet possible to say whether consumption of flour has declined.
