SLAUGHTERING OF LIVESTOCK. FOURTEENTH FORTNIGHTLY REVIEW OF, BY MINISTRY OF FOOD.

15 Dec 1941

3. CALVES. (a) 4. SHEEP. 5.PIGS. Trend of Marketings. The number of calves purchased during the fortnight under review was approximately 31,450, which is 3% greater a year ago. This is the first fortnight since the end of August the the purchases this year have been more than in the corresponding per last year. The slowing down of rearing referred to in the previous review is, therefore, more evident. (b) Regional Variations. The increased slaughter of calves compared with the corresponding fortnight last year was wholly in England and Wales, there being a decrease of 9% in Scotland.
