SLAUGHTERING OF LIVESTOCK. THIRTEENTH FORTNIGHTLY REVIEW OF:, BY MINISTRY OF FOOD.

29 Nov 1941

The number of calves born this autumn should have been greater than last year, in view of the increased cow population as shown by the September census. This, coupled with the decrease in t slaughterings of calves, indicates that there has been an increase i calf rearing this autumn. The relatively smaller decrease in calf slaughterings in the last fortnight compared with the decrease in th previous eight weeks, suggests, however, that the increased rearing calves may now be slowing down. (b) Regional Variations Although the number of calves slaughtered Great Britain during the two weeks ended November 15th was less than year age, the slaughterings in Scotland show an increase of 11%.
