4. SHEEP During the two weeks under review the total numbers of sheep slaughtered were 140,000 (or 30%) less than last year. The reduction occurred in all categories, but was greatest in lambs, which were 109,000 (or 37%) less than in 1940. The slowing down in slaughterings of the lat### is rather more than might have been expected from an examination of the ce results. It would seem that farmers are inclined to retain their lambs because of the high prices now ruling for stores and the hope of a higher p level being fixed for fat animals.
