3. CALVES The number of calves slaughtered in the fortnight ended July 12th 6,260 (or 20%) more than in the same two weeks last year, whereas during six weeks period the purchases were 49% more than last year. These figu seem to indicate that the high rate of slaughter of calves is beginning t slow down. 4. SHEEP. (a) Sheep and Lambs. The slaughterings of sheep and lambs in the period under review were substantially lower than last year but were consistent the smaller number of sheep on farms, as shown by the June census results.
