4. SHEEP (a) During the fifteen weeks from March 3rd, 1941, the total number of sheep purchased for slaughter was nearly 150,000 greater than in the same period last year; but during the two weeks ended June 14th they were 54,000 less than during the corresponding fortnight last year. The considerations mentioned in the previous report explain the reduced marketings in recent weeks. (b) Slaughterings of ewes at this time of the year are usually low and cannot, therefore, be considered a good index of the future trend of production.
