been assumed that about one half of the South American beef and one third of the Australasian beef shipped in the third year of war will be boned out. Deboning not only yields a greater edible proportion of cargoes carried, but is more economical of shipping space. It has also been assumed that the present policy of making the fullest practicable importing use of the refrigerated capacity of vessels allocated to the Fighting Services, either by lifting suitable cargoes in South Africa or by diversion to Australasia or (more usually) to South America, will be continued.
