LIVESTOCK PRICES, REPORT ON: by Interdepartmental Committee on Food Prices.

17 Jun 1941

INTERDEPARTMENTAL COMMITTEE ON FOOD PRICES SUB-COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURAL PRICES REPORT ON LIVESTOCK PRICES 1. The Food Policy Committee referred to the Interdepartmental Committee on Food Prices for preliminary examination "the question of the price schedule required to avoid any incentive to the maintenance of excessive numbers of livestock", though "a final decision could not be reached until the forthcoming changes in agricultural wage rates have been settled". [F.P. (M) (41) 17th Conclusion (h) (ii)] Meeting, The Committee has accordingly enquired whether the present schedule of prices (1) is so high that it provides an incentive to maintain excessive numbers or (2) is too low and could be raised without providing such an incentive or (3) whether the existing level provides neither incentive nor discouragement.
