AGRICULTURAL WORK ON SUNDAY. Memo. by Home Secretary.

4 Mar 1941

Following the collapse of France last June I appealed to all workers engaged in the production of aircraft and munitions to work seven days a week in order that we might make good our losses in materials and be in a position to defeat the enemy should he attempt to invade the country. That appeal was answered in a magnificent manner. It is now necessary to make a similar appeal to the Agricultural Industry, an appeal to farmers and Agricultural workers alike. The Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Minister of Agriculture for Northern Ireland have been set by the Government a very heavy task.
