1. CONTROL OF BEER OUTPUT. (Reference: F.P.(M)(40) 36th Mtg. Concl.2). The Committee had before them a memorandum by the Minister of Food (F.P.(M)(41) 58) in which he proposed (a) to maintain the existing control of the brewing industry's purchases of sugar and barley, and (b) in consultation with the Chancellor of the Exchequer, to consider placing a further check upon output, if necessary, by again reducing the gravities of beer. THE MINISTER OF FOOD said that the question of the amount of foodstuffs used in the manufacture of beer was to be raised in the House of Lords and he was anxious, before replying to it, to obtain the Committee's approval of the proposals contained in his memorandum.
