1. RATIONING OF CHEESE. THE COMMITTEE had before them a memorandum by the Minister of Food (F.P.(M)(41)24) containing proposals for the rationing of cheese. THE MINISTER stated that he was very loath to ration cheese as the quantities, if evenly distributed, would be very small but there had been widespread complaints of uneven distribution and an irresistible case had been made for miners and agricultural workers who, unlike most other workers, could not obtain their midday meals in canteens. Rationing would be by registration with a priority ration amounting to 8 ozs, a week per head for miners and agricultural workers (but not of course for the members of their family) and 1 oz.
