Education Act, 1921, free meals can only be given to children who "are unable by reason of lack of food to take full advantage of the education provided for them" and the Unemployment Assista### Board have agreed that as the meals are only given on physical or educational grounds to selected children, they should be regarded as supplementary to the Board's allowances. Where an unemployed man applies for an additional grant over and above: the allowance calculated on the ordinary basis, the fact that his children receive free meals from the Local Education Authority ma be taken into account but this is not as a rule done.
