5. -2- gone on fairly steadily during the past month. The acreage is likely to be at least 30,000 compared with less than 3,000 in 1939. The final figure may be substantially more than 30,000, but it will not be possible to give a more accurate figure until later in the season. Flax. The Ministry have issued a special appeal to all farmers who can possibly do so to sow still more additional flax between now and the end of the month. Seed has been made available for a further 16,000 acres. As pointed out at the time, it will not be possible owing to the delay in fixing the price for the 1940 crop to obtain the 50,000 aimed at.
