SERVICE RATIONS. FINDINGS OF EXPERT ADVISERS OF DEPTS. CONCERNED. Memo. by Minister of Health covering:

21 Feb 1940

(iii) It is suggested that greater use might be made of cheese, fish, sausage and offal in Service catering in order to supply satisfactory substitute dishes and variation for the above mentioned meals. (iv) The allowance to the A.T.S. and W.A.A.F.S. should not exceed 7 ozs. of meat and 1 oz. of bacon* per person daily, but the messing cash value of the ration should continue to be calculated on the existing basis. The conference wishes to record its opinion that from the experience of the last war, a system of differential rationing between men is impracticable, and to indicate that many Commanding Officers are at present not drawing up to the maximum allowance of meat.
