1. FOOD SITUATION IN THE UNITED KINGDOM. The Committee had before them the Fortnightly Report by the Minister of Food No.54 (F.P.(M)(40) 175). THE MINISTER OF FOOD outlined the extent to which we had suffered losses of food and feeding stuffs by sinkings and air raids in recent weeks. The average weekly imports of food and feeding stuffs during the fourteen weeks to the 7th December was provisionally estimated at 270,000 tons, The losses by sinking reported during the week ending 14th December amounted to 33,200 tons, including 21,900 tons of wheat, 2,100 tons of meat, 1,900 tons of oil cake and 1,700 tons of bacon.
