16 Sep 1940

1. BACON IMPORTS 1940/41. (Previous Reference: F.P.(M)(40) 29th Mtg. Conclusion 1). The Committee had before them a Memorandum by the Minister of Food on bacon imports for the year 1940/41 (F.P.(M)(40) 135). The following points were made in discussion:- (i) The Minister of Food was anxious to avoid any reduction of the 4 oz. ration (already reduced from 8 ozs.) and considered that this should be possible, given some reduction in the Service and children's rations. He hoped that the Treasury would be prepared to make the necessary dollar exchange available for imports from Canada and the United States at the rate of 190,000 tons a year.
