French Request for A Guaranteed Minimum of Meat Imports and for the use of British Refrigerated Tonnage; Memorandum by the Minister of Food and the Minister of Shipping.

158 In consequence the French have asked that, in view Of the delays that have already occurred and of the uncertainty that must always exist as to the availability of future supplies and of refrigerated tonnage, they should be given a definite guarantee that the French Government shall obtain 20,000 tons of meat per month and that British refrigerated tonnage, to an estimated amount of 9 - 10,000 tons a month, shall be made available to supplement French tonnag. 3. This request is similar to one made and met in the last war.
