GOVERNMENT OFFICES, WHITEHALL: SOUTH BLOCK. MEMORANDUM BY MINISTRY OF WORKS.

28 Aug 1941

Colonial Office. Dominions Office. India and Burma Offices. The Colonial Office have already moved 125 people out of Whitehall; the remaining staffs interlock and it is not feasible administratively to separate them, nor is it practicable for the Secretary of State, with certain senior officials, to be isolated from the remainder of the staff. The Department is in close touch with the Foreign Office, particularly the Riddle Eastern, Far Eastern and Foreign Colonies' Departments. All the staffs in Whitehall are either engaged on war work or deal with geographical "reds affected by hostilities.
