TERMINATION OF WAR CONTRACTS THE COMMITTEE had before them a memorandum by the Joint Secretaries (E.L.(45)3) on the question whether legislation would be required in regard to contracts, other than leases, the duration of which depended on the manner in which hostilities ended in Europe. Departments were asked to indicate to what extent contracts of this character had been entered into by the Department or by private parties with the knowledge of the Department. SIR BERNARD GILBERT said the Treasury had consulted the Bank of England who did not think it likely that there were any contracts in the banking world, the interpretation of which would be rendered difficult by the form in which the war ended in Europe.
