LEGISLATIVE AUTHORITY FOR CONTINUANCE OF EMERGENCY POWERS. Further Memorandum by the Joint Secretaries

30 Nov 1944

All these Regulations will have to be continued for a temporary period, and on the whole, the most practicable solution seems to be to continue them for one year after the expiry of the Emergency Powers (Defence) Acts with a power to continue them for further periods of one year. By the time Stage C is reached the Supplies and Services (Transitional Powers) Bill will probably have come to the end of the initial period of two years and will be on a year to year basis, and it will therefore be the natural thing to put the new Stage C Bill on a similar basis.
