Journals of more limited circulation but of great importance to research workers are the Journal of Physiology, the Biochemical Journal, the British Journal of Surgery, the British Journal of Experimental Pathology and Bacteriology, the Journal of Hygiene, and Nutrition Abstracts and Reviews. Most of these journals appear quarterly and the demand they nuke on materials and labour is obviously small. Special consideration needs to be given to what may be called "the synoptic journals", e.g. the Bulletin of Hygiene, the Bulletin of War Medicine and the Medical Year Book, which give in summarised form the essential features of articles appearing in a wide range of journals.
