Supplies of Fuel to Industry Memorandum by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade

1 Apr 1946

3. Faced with insufficient supplies to nest industrial demand in full, the Regional Officials of the Ministry of Fuel and Power must have advice as to the industries or firms whose supplies can be cut with the least injury to industry as a whole and the national interest. Experience during the war, when similar crises developed, demonstrated clearly that this advice can best be obtained, and the matter most expeditiously handled, at Regional level, where full knowledge of local conditions is immediately available from the Regional representatives of all Departments concerned and from the Regional Board for Industry.
