The Improvement of Basic Services in the Development Areas Note by the President of the Board of Trade

7 Mar 1946

Scotland. The general conclusions of the Scottish working party agree with those reached by the England and Wales group, but include the following additional recommendations :— (a) That those derelict sites needing clearance which can be put to industrial development should be acquired and cleared by the Board of Trade. Derelict sites for which clearance is required to improve the amenities of certain localities should, if the Board of Trade prefer, be under- taken by Local Authorities. Immediate discussions should be opened with Local Authorities with a view to fixing the amount of the grant to be made towards the cost of the works.
