(b) Where the cost of the war works does not exceed the annual compensation rent payable under Section 2 (i) (a) of the Compensation (Defence) Act, and that rent does not exceed £1,000, the premises should be de—requisitioned as soon as they are cleared. The Departmental Valuer will have to make the best bargain he can with the owner in respect of the works by set-off against any compensation payable under Section 2 (i) (b) of the Act. (c) Valuers should start negotiations on betterment as soon as possible after the decision to derequisition.
