5. other By V (J) Day Hillington's new engine programme had dropped to 300 engines a month which, with repair work, modifications etc., employed 17,800 workpeople. Further cuts were imposed on and after V (J) Day, leaving a programme of engine repair and conversion, tapering from about 800 engines a moth at the end of 1945 to about 400 in 1946; and a continuing programme of 75 new engines a month from the Lincoln II, after outstanding orders for some other types had been completed in February, 1946.
