B. DETAILED SUMMARY OF AIR RAID DAMAGE IN THE PERIOD 7TH-14TH OCTOBER, 1942. I. HOMELESS. On 12th Octber 8 H.E's were dropped at Tynemouth and two rest centres were opened, but were closed the same day. A rest centre was opened at Whitley Bay on 12th October as a result of 4 H.E's being dropped. 300 people were rendered homeless at Sunderland on 12th October and one rest centre was opened. II. WATER SUPPLY. At South Shields on 11/12th October two 12" mains were broken, affecting the principal supply to the to###n.
