TUBE SHELTERS.; SHELTER POLICY.; AIR RAID WARNINGS.

23 Sep 1940

Railways. ###lter Policy ###erally. The main object of the Meeting was to have a provisional discussion on the question whether greater use should be made of the Tube Railways to provide shelter during air raids, particularly at night. The Meeting was informed that the Holborn-Aldwych section of tube had been closed by the London Passenger Transport Board on traffic grounds. This section would not provide shelter for more than 2,500 people. There was no other section of the Underground Railway system, not required for traffic, which had not already been earmarked for some specific purpose.
