I am satisfied that in competition with private industry we shall have to be prepared to pay at least and perhaps more to the Chairman, £7,000 a year to the Vice-Chairman and $6,000 a year to Members of the Board. One reason for paying £6,000 a year as a minimum is that it will be out of the question to obtain the leading mining engineers we shall require for the reorganisation of the coal industry at a lower salary than this and we cannot pay full time Members of the Board, e.
