Dalton and I have arranged that the representative of the Canadian newsprint suppliers shall come over next April to discuss with us and the newspaper proprietors improts from Canada and Newfoundland in 1947, as well as the disposition of the remainder of the contract for 224,000 tons which had been placed by the Newsprint Supply Company with Canada and Newfoundland for 1946. I have agreed that the 10 per cent. increase in consumption of newsprint which was allowed for the general election and was extended thereafter on a temporary basis, shall be allowed to continue for an indefinite period.
