Unless we move quickly we shall find that some of the most useful people have already been attracted (or removed) else- where, with a consequent great gain to our competitors and loss to ourselves. 6. The main objection to such a proposal is on security grounds. Once aliens are admitted to this country for employment and are allowed to remain for an indefinite period - and the longer they remain the more difficult it becomes to turn them out it is almost impossible, whatever security precautions are taken, to prevent them picking up information about defence production, if only because the line of demarcation between civil industry and defence industry is so difficult to draw.
