4. The Teachers (Superannuation) Act, 1937, and the Teachers (Superannuation) Act, 1945, both make provision for limited breaks in service to be treated as contributory or pensionable service. Under Section 2 of the 1937 Act, the employment of a teacher in contributory service may be discontinued for a period, normally not exceeding five years, to enable him to serve as a teacher in any part of His Majesty's dominions outside the United Kingdom or in a foreign country in schools where British teachers are necessary, or in certain other educational service outside the United Kingdom.
