(45) 177 COPY NO. 18TH SEPTEMBER, 1945 CABINET LORD PRESIDENT'S COMMITTEE MEMORIAL TO PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT Note by the Minister of Town and Country Planning The memorandum by the Minister of works (C.P. (45) 145) raises objections to the siting of a statue to President Roosevelt in the Canning Enclosure, Parliament Square, and proposes Grosvenor Square as an alternative site. 2. The placing of a single statue would not normally call for comment from me as a matter of vital concern for town planning; but in this case the statue would have such importance that its location is a matter of some interest from the planning point of view, and I therefore mage two observations on the memorandum.
