(THIS DOCUMENT IS THE PROPERTY OF HIS BRITANNIC MAJESTY'S GOVERNMENT) SECRET L.P. (45) 176 17TH SEPTEMBER, 1945 CABINET LORD PRESIDENT'S COMMITTEE STAFFING POSITION IN THE CIVIL SERVICE Note by the Secretary of State for India 1. I ask that the India Office be added to the list of Priority Departments appended to the Memorandum (L.P. (45) 169) regarding the staffing position in the Civil Service submitted to the Committee by the Chancellor of the Exchequer on 11th September, 1945. 2. On balance that is by off-setting certain obligations which the end of the war diminishes against others which the coming of peace revives or creates in Departments with such a wide range of administration as the two in my charge the work of the India Office and Burma Office, which have a joint cadre, tends, over-all, to increase, for the time being.
