2 THE NORTH-EASTERN DEVELOPMENT AREA. 2. Here the total unemployment* in 1937 was about 124,000 and the average for 1934—38 was 170,000 persons. Additional factories built since 1938 up till the setting-up of Panel A in the summer of 1944 (including the standard factories, munitions factories and factories built during and just before the war on the existing Trading Estates at Team Valley, Pallion and West Auckland) should be capable of employing a large number of additional workers as follows :— (a) "Standard" Factories.
