STREET LIGHTING. Memorandum by the Minister of Fuel and Power.

14 Aug 1945

IS DOCUMENT IS THE PROPERTY OF HIS BRITANNIC MAJESTY'S GOVERNMENT) L.P. (45) 132 COPY NO. 14TH AUGUST, 1945 CABINET LORD PRESIDENT'S COMMITTEE SECRET LIGHTING Memorandum by the Minister of Fuel and Power 1. At their meeting on the 12th April, 1945 (W.M. (45) 42nd Conclusions, minute 4), the War Cabinet approved the proposal to restore full street lighting at the end of British Double Summer Time though they realised that factors other than military security might be involved. 2. Before the lights were restored it seemed to my predecessor imperative that steps should be taken to prevent street lights burning during daylight hours which would probably happen because of the shortage of labour to attend to the street lamps.
