SUPPLY DIFFICULTIES IN THE COLONIAL EMPIRE Memorandum by the Minister of Food

15 May 1945

(THIS DOCUMENT IS THE PROPERTY OF HIS BRITANNIC MAJESTY'S GOVERNMENT) SECRET COPY NO. L.P. (45) 15th May, 1945 105 WAR CABINET LORD PRESIDENT'S COMMITTEE SUPPLY DIFFICULTIES IN THE COLONIAL EMPIRE Memorandum by the Minister of Food 1. I support the Memorandum (L.P. (45) 100) submitted by the Secretary of State for the Colonies. 2. The main foods which we obtain from the Colonies are vegetable oils and sugar. Both are in regrettably short supply. 3. It has throughout the war consistently been found that to get increased, or even to maintain present supplies of these essential foods, it is necessary to supply in exchange the consumer goods needed by native producers.
